Why do people use proxies?

People use proxies for a variety of reasons. You'll find them in business, schools and colleges because they allow the control, monitoring of internet access. The proxy server intercepts each web request and forward it to the web server then sends it back to your browser. This enables a few things to happen you can log what everyone is doing on the internet, you can speed up web browsing by caching often used pages on the server, and block web sites that you don't want people to access.

People also use anonymous proxies online to protect their identity. When you use a proxy server which is configured correctly your IP address will not be logged in any web sites you visit (instead the proxy server address will be registered).
