It is important to know the source of your information so that you can better identify bias in the writing as well as to help you determine the credibility of a source.

For instance, if you are reading an essay on the history of legalized abortion, noting the author is associated with Planned Parenthood means the essay is likely biased positively towards abortion access. However, if the author is associated with a Right to Life movement, the essay is likely biased negatively towards abortion access.

Also, if the author of the essay is an OB/GYN with twenty years of experience in treating women's fertility concerns, the information is likely to be more credible than if the author is a music major college student.
