Isambard Kingdom Brunel built the underwater Thames Tunnel to facilitate transportation and improve trade between the areas of Rotherhithe and Wapping in London. Completed in 1843, it was the first underwater tunnel ever constructed and aimed to alleviate congestion caused by ferry crossings. The tunnel also demonstrated engineering innovation and Brunel's vision for connecting communities through advanced infrastructure.
