What the conservative coalition in Congress?

The conservative coalition in Congress was a union between southern Democrats (dixiecrats) and Republicans in Congress aimed at either blocking or weakening President Roosevelt's New Deal policies. The coalition controlled much of Congress' policy direction from 1937 until 1968 when many of the Dixiecrats began to switch over to the Republican Party (mainly due to the Democratic Parties support of Civil Rights).
