If a copy artist reproduced one of Monet's paintings, it is likely that he/she would have also reproduced Monet's painted signature, unless the distinction as a copy was meant to be obvious. A "print" of a painting is, by definition, a copy of the original painting and would therefore include the painted signature

  • obscuration of the signature would constitute a defacement of the

original in the process of print production.
