It saves data
for a PSP, a lot how the PS3 does with a hard drive. Since the PSP
is small, SONY used a memory stick to be able to fit in all of the
other parts in it. With a memory stick, you can place in music,
videos, games, etc. on the PSP, unlike Game Boy's, Nintendo DS's,
etc., where they save in their cartridges, which is pretty dumb, so
pretty much, memory sticks allow the PSP to have more features than
all of the other portable systems out so far.
