Similar: * the thirst for blood (necessary vampire trait), extremely long lives; * the younger vampire disguises himself as a high school student (backstory, serves as a basis for the plot); * a human girl finds out about his secret after much investigation and falls in love with him; * the arrival of another vampire in the town creates the confrontation. Different: * The heroine of Diaries is initially a popular girl, shallow and selfcentred, but develops into a more likeable character over the story. The heroine in Twilight is a likeable person * The vampires in Diaries retain most of their traditional properties (the blood exchange, death in sunlight) where Twilight makes them out as virtually indestructible. * The heroine falls in love with two vampire brothers in the Diaries as opposed to one in Twilight; * there is only one vampire in the town at the beginning of the story in Diaries, where a whole clan is present in Twilight; * In Diaries, the heroine dies after a car crash, but becomes a vampire because of the blood exchange with both vampires - this occurs quite early in the overall story arc. In Twilight, the heroine is made a vampire by her lover after a birthing almost kills her, and she had wanted to become one - this does not occur until the fourth and final book. * The newly arrived vampire travels alone and eventually falls in love with the heroine, and is also the brother of the original vampire. In Twilight, the travelling vampire has some companions, is of no relation to the clan, and selects the heroine as a target. There are many more similarities and differences between the two series, some more minor than others.
