Killer bees, or Africanized honey bees, originated from a hybridization of the African honey bee with European honey bee species in Brazil during the 1950s. They were accidentally released into the wild and began to spread rapidly throughout South America. By the 1980s, they had migrated into Central America and eventually into the southern United States, particularly Texas. Their aggressive behavior and ability to adapt to various environments facilitated their invasion across these regions.
