A cardboard box would be good or just wrap the body in something cotton like an old sheet (make sure it is100% cotton). It really needs to biodegrade you see. You don't have to bury it in anything but it seems more dignified to have something.
Also the hole always seems to need to be bigger than you think, you don't want to have to do some last minute digging during the funeral!
It is good to take the time to give your lost friend a proper send off and may be very helpful in dealing with your loss.
Anyone going through this has my sincere sympathies, many people do not realize how much animals can mean to you.
