compound flowers 1.5-3 inches in diameter that have a distinct dusty pungent odor, alternating lobed leaves, usually a mounding affect, beautiful fall colors of white, brass, orange, red, burgundy, and yellow. Usually blooming late summer to early fall, 10-24 inches in height. A good substitute would be dendranthemum because they need not be pinched.
