The CVV, or Card Verification Value, is a three-digit number on the back of most Credit and Debit Cards, typically located in the signature strip. For American Express cards, it is a four-digit number located on the front of the card. The CVV is used as a security feature to help verify that the cardholder is in possession of the physical card during online or card-not-present transactions.
