I will take you step by step in how to change a belt. It's pretty easy, all you need are two things:

* a hammer

* a screwdriver

* the belt (obviously LOL!)

1. First, unplug the vaccum (just a bit of common sense)

2. Lift the metal panel that has the light on the front of it

3. Lift the metal handle in the center (leftie loosie, rightie tightie)

4. Remove the brush/vaccum/belt attachment

5. Twist the gray square on the front of the attachment so that the green arrow faces the red arrow (belt is off)

6. Turn the attachment around to show its backside, the two little handles on the bottom need to be loosened to remove the metal frame. Use a hammer to gently knock them loose

7. Remove frame and use the screwdriver to pry the vaccum brush from the attachment. Clean the brush of hair and other stuff as well as attachment.

8. Slip belt off and replace with a new one

9. Align brush to the grooves on the inside of the attachment, make sure belt is placed in center of brush

10. Align metal frame, turn the little metal knobs again to secure the frame to attachment. Use hammer to knock them into place

11. With your finger, push the belt upwards, then twist the gray square with the Kirby name on it so that it stretches the belt upward

12. Attach the vaccum/belt/brush attachment to the base of the vaccum cleaner

13. Twist shiny metal handle to the right, tap with hammer to tighten

14. Shut the lid and you're done!

I know it may seem like a lot of steps but this is how its done in my vaccum cleaner. It's not a brand spankin' new one cause we've had it about 15 years and it still runs like new! :) Hope this helps! :)
