Mustangs are not mean horses.
A Mustang is a herd animal..they love interacting with other horses.
Mustangs only seem "mean" because they are used to dealing with herd dominance
when they must fight to decide who the leader is.
which in any breed of horse...they will do if multiple animals are put together.
it decides who will breed...who will eat first...who will lead...and so on.
If you are thinking that your mustang horse is mean to you..if you own one...that means he/she does not trust you in your "herd" and your horse is showing dominace over you. In order to gain a mustangs trust you must first let the animal know that you are not going to harm it. Horses are prey animals so the gentleing process may take awhile. Horses are also Fight or Flight animals...they act upon instinct. if you put them in any situation where they become scared or skittish they might attack you.
I own a mustang that i adopted from the blm.
after gaining his trust...i have learned that mustang horses
will have a stronger bond with one person than many people. most domestic horses
will let anyone approach them and pet them/ride them etc.
mustangs like to stick to one or very few people handleing them.
But after i gentled my mustang. He has become the sweetest...well behaved horse
i have ever owned. not to mention he is a looker!
