Can an alligator kill an elephant by the bite of the alligator?

Crocodiles are too small to eat an adult elephant. If there was an exposed elephant calf, however, there is no reason that a crocodile wouldn't attack and eat it (except that the adult elephants would defend the calf, and possibly kill the crocodile.)
