What does us stand for at the end of a URL?

most countries are granted their own internet suffix. most websites in America use .com, because it is most widely known.

but, .us is the top level domain for the United States. most countries have one.

i.e.:

.fr=France

.ca=Canada

.de=Germany

.CD=DR of Congo
