Hummingbirds flap their wings at an astonishing rate, typically between 50 to 80 times per second, depending on the species. Some smaller species may even reach up to 100 wingbeats per second during intense activity, such as hovering or chasing. This rapid wing movement allows them to maneuver quickly and maintain their ability to hover in place while feeding on nectar.
