A PICC line, or peripherally inserted central catheter, is a long, thin tube inserted into a vein in the arm that extends to a larger vein near the heart. It is used for patients who require long-term intravenous (IV) access for medication, nutrition, or blood draws. PICC lines can remain in place for weeks to months and are commonly used in hospitals and for outpatient care. They are especially beneficial for patients undergoing chemotherapy, long-term antibiotic therapy, or those with difficult venous access.
