This is a short profile of Hazrat Abu Ubaydah Radhiallah Anhu.
He was born 40 years before migration. (Waaqidi)
Name and Title:
· Aamir bin Abdullah
· He earned fame with this title Abu Ubaydah. Similarly, al-Jarrah was his paternal grandfather's name, which earned him fame with the name of Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah.
· He was given the title of Ameen-ul-Ummah by RasulullahSAWW himself.
Tribe:
· He was from the tribe of Quraish.
· His clan was Banu Fihr, last of the clans of Quraish, and it is at Fihr where his lineage meets Rasulullah'sSAWW descent.
Conversion to Islam:
· He converted on the advice of Hazrat AbubakrRA.
· As per a tradition, he was the eighth person to embrace Islam.
Services to Islam:
· He was one of the CompanionsRA who migrated twice.
· In the Battle of Badr, he did not take in account the relation he had with his father, and killed him as he was a pagan.
· In the Battle of Uhad, he pulled out metal rods of a helmet which had pierced into Holy Prophet'sSAWW body with his teeth which caused two of his teeth to break.
· He had a very enthusiastic participation in the battles of Khandaq and the siege of Banu Quraydhah.
· He was one of those people who signed on the document of the Treaty of Hudaibiyah as a witness to the Treaty.
· For defeating the army of Banu Qudha'aa, RasulullahSAWW despatched an army under him which included prominent SahabahRA such as Hazrat AbubakrRA and Hazrat UmarRA.
· He was asked to be the Khalifah of the Muslims by Hazrat AbubakrRA following the demise of RasulullahSAWW.
· He led the armies which conquered Syria and many other places.
· During Hazrat Umar'sRA Khilaafat, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the Muslim armies at Syria, where he passes away due to plague.
What Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said about Him?
· "For every Ummah, there is an Ameen (man of trust), and the Ameen of my Ummah is Abu UbaydahRA. (Bukhari, Muslim)
· "O Abu UbaydahRA! Allah has fed you and your army with an Anbar (a fish) from Jannah." (For reference, check Ashrah Mubashirah Nazar ba Nazar)
· "The young lad who has spared two of his teeth in the cause of Allah (at Uhad) shall enter Paradise." (Tabqaat Ibn Saeed)
