Do you mean .177 caliber pellet, and do you also mean pistol or rifle not just an air gun.
If so then:
Lets start with a few facts. Pellets come in different sizes and weights. A light weight pellet will travel further than a heavy weight pellet, but it will be less accurate and have less knock down power than a heavy weighted pellet
There are several different powerplants
that air guns/rifles use. There is the Spring piston system, Pump, C02, Nitro
gas (Similar to the spring system) and the most powerful is the PCP (PreCharged
Pneumatic System) Most pellets will travel a few hundred feet and up to several hundred feet but a PCP can out distance them by over a 1000 feet using a light weight pellet at full power.
The reason it is so powerful is it used a special pump or Scuba tank to charge the rifle. A regular 12 gram
C02 powerlett
puts out around 800 PSI the PCP fire at 3,000 PSI when set to full power. PCP's
are capable of firring pellets up to 50 caliber in size.
