How do you get plant sap off a cat's coat?

If the sap is from a firtree you can try gently rubbing it away with alcohol/ I nver tried this myself, but I did so for Chewing Gum on jeans, for instance and it worked. Besides alcohol is hygienic and it cannot harm the skin of the animal if the animal fur is alive!
