You wash your 1977 280z and when you drive away it won't go over 2500 RPM using the pedal but if you down shift to a lower gear it will go over 2500 with no problem?

What is the question? Firstly, learn how to drive. Secondly, learn how to construct basic sentences. It normally goes over 2500 rpm with no problem. What is the question? Like most questions on here I'm asking what could be wrong with my car. If you think only 2500 rpm is normal for a 280z then don't bother commenting. It doesn't really matter anyway it sat over night and whatever I got wet when I washed it dried out and is working fine now.
