The left artium of the heart receives blood from the pumonary veins.
- Blood enters the heart through the vena cava (vein) into the right atrium.
- It then moves down into the right ventricle through the open tricuspid valve which closes when the pressure in the right ventricle is higher than that in the right atrium to prevent back flow.
- The blood is then moved out of the heart and to the lungs through the pulmonary artery.
- it then comes back it the heart into the left atrium through the pulmonary vein.
- Blood is then moved into the left ventricle through the open bicuspid valve which also closes when the pressure in the left ventricle is higher than that in the left atrium to prevent back flow.
- Blood is then moved out of the heart and around the body through the main artery; the aorta.
