How long did the reign of the dinosaur last?

Dinosaurs first appeared on the planet around 230 million years ago, and most of them (I say most because birds are now classified as dinosaurs, due to recent studies) died out around 65 million years ago. they were the dominant vertibrate lifeforms on earth for 165 million years.
