That statement could be true of many coins from that time. Coins in 1908 were the same size as coins struck today, so if you can't read the denomination on the back of it just compare its size to a modern quarter, dime, etc. Then please post a new question and we can try to value it. Unfortunately, if it's so worn you can't read the denomination it's not likely to be worth more than its raw metal content.
