Let's start from the basics.

They both lived in the 19th century.

They were both appreciated mainly after their death.

They both had an attraction to alcohol.

Vincent Van Gogh was heavily influenced by Edgar Allan Poe.

They both has a passionate love life.

Van Gogh actually wrote about Poe in 3 letters to Theo (361, 1883; 656, 1888; 726 1888)

They both had autistic-like, strong emotions no one could define.

They are both very dark. Poe is more of a chaotic kind, Vincent is more of a strong wave kind.

Poe drags you into his work, Vincent hits you with his work (figuratively).

They sure weren't the soporific kind.

They were both dedicated Christians which later turned into Poe-a Deist and Vincent-an Atheist.

They both have very similar fans. Fans of one are usually fans of the other.

The biggest one I think, it would take years to find a social stratification for these two in society. Don't think so? Think deeper.
