Did you ever spray paint anything? Notice how the paint flowed into every crack and crease? Airbrush makeup is sprayed on, so it does the same thing.

Advantages: yes, you get a very nice finish. That's why airbrush makeup is the standard for HDTV.

Disadvantages: the product is REALLY expensive--a lot of pro artists take regular foundation makeup and dilute it with water to a sprayable viscosity and use that. It's not waterproof, so you'll sweat it off faster. And you need more than Luminess says you do because it's laid down in very thin coats. Plus, the equipment is hella expensive. I don't know about y'all, but a compressor costs a hundred bucks and a good airbrush about $130, and you can get the most exquisite regular brush set on the market for less than that. Add the maintenance requirements of an airbrush--if you don't clean it right you WILL clog it, and unclogging an airbrush is no fun--and the noise of a compressor. Basically, if you're making up a lot of people airbrush is great (and if you're making up a HUGE amount of people, like a choir, it's possible to use a regular spray gun and do everyone's foundation in a minute apiece) but if it's just for you, I don't think the economics come out.

Disadvantage of Luminess specifically: the equipment is not high quality but they charge an arm and a leg for it. Go to Harbor Freight and buy their under-$100 airbrush compressor, add a $100 Badger airbrush, and you've got a better system for less money.
