Estimates of the size of the meteorite that hit near modern day Chicxulub in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico 65 million years ago causing the extinction of the dinosaurs range from 10 to 20 km in diameter. The Chicxulub crater left behind by the meteorite is 180 km wide.
