Why does your car smoke from exhaust?

Could be a number of reasons. First, you need to determine the source. If it's black or dark grey or bluish-grey, it's probably oil. If it's white, it's antifreeze. In the case of the latter, a bad head gasket or valve gasket is typically the culprit.
