86 Honda trx 250 fourtrax runs great and then stalls out after a few minutes of riding what could be wrong and is ideling high?

Same thing happened to me. The petcock valve (Fuel Reserve-On/Off) in the tank was full of rust so I cleaned and all was well. Also, I changed the Fuel Filter. Runs Great now.
