Why do farmers need antibiotics on farm animals?

Where else would you raise animals? You can't raise them in cities and most towns and animals need to have LOTS of space to graze and exercise themselves. If you raise them in cinfined areas then they have a MUCH higher chance of getting diseases and making people sick and they could die.
