Since coaches were the 'normal' mode of transport at the time for those who could afford it, King George III would for his daily use have his coach pulled by one or two horses. More than that number would only complicate the coach driver's job and the risk of things going wrong without adding anything to the speed or comfort of the ride.

Only on rare State occasions the State coach would be used that was drawn by 8 horses; 4 of them being ridden by jockeys to better control the horses.
