Are turtledoves and pigeons the same thing?

Turtledoves and pigeons are not the same, although they are closely related and belong to the same family, Columbidae. Turtledoves are generally smaller and have a more slender appearance, with distinctive features like a long tail and soft cooing calls. Commonly recognized species include the Eurasian collared dove and the mourning dove, which are often referred to as turtledoves. While all turtledoves are pigeons, not all pigeons are turtledoves.
