I just re-installed Victorian style low boy toilets from the 30's in a home i did work in. They are original to the house. They needed some new rubber washers and new seals on the floor, and a couple needed some new parts but they still work great after i was done. My point is, a good toilet if maintained can last a lifetime. Don't buy a cheap toilet from a home store. Call a plumber or go to a Plumbing supply shop and ask what they recommend for your needs. Toilets that are built well will flush better, clog less, and last longer. another thing to remember is the quality of you house water, and if it is filtered, softened, and the type of cleaners you use on and in your toilet. These all corrode parts faster. On the other side of the extreme i have seen a couple of bargain toilets in homes that i have had to replace after only a few years. You often get what you pay for.
