Angels as we know of, as celestial beings, are created by God. They do his bidding, often unseen, and minister to man's needs at times, especially those who will turn to the Lord. "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" Hebrews 1:14.
Angels are servants and messangers of God. Several are mentioned by name, Gabriel and Michael among them. Some are not given names at all. Hebrews 13:2 (KJV) says, "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." This passage is sometimes used to help illustrate the situation that Lot experienced in Genesis 19. Lot recognized the visitors, while most people apparently do not.
The only other angel referred to metaphorically in Scripture is actually a pastor of a church, meaning that he is a "messenger." It is stated such: "Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write..." Revelation 2:1. There are no references to "earth angels."
