Akbar, the third Mughal emperor, began his efforts to unify India after ascending to the throne in 1556. His reign, which lasted until 1605, saw the consolidation of Mughal power and the expansion of the empire through military conquests, alliances, and administrative reforms. While he did not unify the entire subcontinent, his policies and governance significantly integrated diverse regions under Mughal rule.
