Live-bearing lizards, known as ovoviviparous species, include several families. Notable examples are the skinks (family Scincidae), such as the common skink (Lacerta vivipara) and some species of the genus Eulamprus. Additionally, certain species of the viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara) and some members of the family Xenosauridae also give birth to live young. These adaptations are often suited to cooler climates where egg-laying might be less viable.
