Why is AC used in power distribution systems more than DC?

AC used in power distribution systems because it is easy to transform it to a higher voltage for transmission (more efficient) and later to transform it to any other level required.

Even when it enters the house we might find the level is too high and we use a built-in transformer for example for the transistor radio.
