Is mucinex dm safe to take while breastfeeding?

The "DM" portion of the medication is not a decongestant. It stands for Dextromethorphan which is a cough suppressant...and which (in the form of Robitussin DM) is considered safe by many OB doctors.

Mucinex DM is safe during pregnancy. Had the same issue today actually. 12 weeks pregnant and unsure of what to take. Went to CVS without my cell so I couldn't call my OB. I asked the pharmacist and he said mucinex DM would be best. He recommended not taking anything with sudafed or phenylephrine in it, which rules out any type of Tylenol cold medicine. Mucinex DM is not a decongestant, its a cough suppressant. Mucinex D is the decongestant. If you're congested and coughing, take the Mucinex DM for the cough and a saline nasal spray for the congestion. Pharmacist recommended method.
