First, food and automobiles have nothing to do with the US debt.

It is not clear that it is possible for the US to significantly reduce its debt, much less eliminate it. The cuts in spending that are required to meaningfully reduce the debt would be so unpopular with the public that any party that attempts it would be voted out of office and their policies would be quickly reversed. Hyperinflation followed by bankruptcy may be inevitable, at this point.
