When was relay for life founded?

Relay for Life was founded in 1985 by Dr. Gordy Klatt, an oncologist in Tacoma, Washington. The first event involved Klatt walking and running around a track for 24 hours to raise funds for cancer research. Since then, it has grown into a global movement organized by the American Cancer Society, with events held in numerous countries to support cancer awareness and research funding.
