Was the cold war handled properly?

Difficult to know. We're still here, the Soviet Union collapsed under its own weight, and there was no nuclear World War III. So obviously, we didn't mess it up TOO badly.

Certainly, we could have done far worse than we did, and we can all point to a myriad of mistakes along the way. But there was no nuclear war, and that counts for a LOT.
