Genital warts, sometimes called venereal warts, are growths or bumps contracted through sexual contact. They're caused by certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is one of the most common STDs.

HPV infection often does not cause symptoms. One study reported that almost half of the all women with HPV had no obvious symptoms. Small hard spots can develop within three weeks to three months after exposure, in many cases.
