What year did harley Davidson introduce the Evolution motor?

The 1984 model year was the first year for the Evolution big twin engine, actually introduced in calendar year 1983. The old big twin engine, commonly referred to as the shovelhead was also produced that entire model year. Both were referred to by the factory as being 80 cubic inches, when in fact they were both 81.6 cubic inches.
