Can chewing tobacco cause a mucocele?

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but this is what I'm going through. I have chewed and dipped tobacco for about 4 years. Most of those years I was a very heavy user. over a month ago I had a canker sore where I usually put my dip so I kept on putting my dip over the canker sore. I then got the bright idea to bite the canker sore off. I switched the dip to the other side till it healed then continued to put my dip back where the canker sore was. What I noticed is that the canker sore was so close to being absolutly gone except for the fact it left like a hard almost microscopic bump which I just thought was like a scab from biting it off or something. So once again I just put my dip over it and went on with my merry day. A week or so later that bump started swelling up under my gums. It was painless, got swelled up when I bit the lump, and I could almost like move it under my skin. I left it alone, and stopped my tobacco habit for the time being (hopefully forever). The lump then got alot smaller after I stopped messing with it and stopped dipping. I decided to try and pop the sucker to get it out of my mouth so i took my knife and put a few gashes into it and I put some pressure on it and there was a popping noise like you would hear when you pop a really big, tight zit. This sticky like grey matter came out of the lump. Sense I didnt want to cut up my mouth anymore I just stopped and let it heal for a few weeks to see if it would go away or get worse etc..

Well, I have done resaerch and I'm hoping it isnt mouth cancer. All my research has pointed me in the direction of it being a mucocele. I plan on making a appointment with my dentist asap so I can get this thing taken out of my mouth.

A Mucocele is like a cyst that forms from salivary glands getting plugged up or stopped up...... The question is did they get plugged up from me biting off my canker sore? Putting my dip over the canker sore? Or both? I will hopefully find out at the dentist soon enough.
