What should you take in high school to be an accountant?

Five tips:

1. A bookkeeping or accounting course will give you a nice introduction to the field, and help you decide if it interests you.
2. Take a complete math sequence. Accountants must know basic arithmetic cold.
3. Learn Microsoft Excel.
4. In certain states, AP courses taken for college credit count towards the 150 hour rule.
5. Don't "cop out" and take business-type courses instead of more intense college prep courses. To start your career right, you need to get into a competitive college, and succeed there.
