How do you prepare runner beans?

For sowing dig in to the proposed growing area as much rotted compost as possible. Stake bamboo poles about 12" apart to make triangles and a long pole at the top to make a roof type enclosure.

Soak the beans in water overnight and drain ,wait for the radicle to appear. This root tip must not be broken . Place one germinated beans in each small pot of compost about 1" below the surface . Wait until they are about 6" tall before planting out beside a bamboo pole. This gets them above snail height but also put slug pellets down or be ready with a flashlight at night. Replace any eaten seedlings from extra potted seedlings.Keep watering well even after flowering and bean production. Pick when young,freeze excess and save fat seed pods for next year.

Saving seed.

Allow mature pods to turn brown and crispy.Shuck beans and store in a paper bag for next year.
