My great grandfather who lived in Scotland in the late 1800's was a woodsman. What did a woodsman do?

On may of the large estates these men were employed as part o the staff to keep the wider grounds in good condition, supply the house with fuel, and in some cases act as a game keeping, that however, was rare.
