The English Word 'cell' has about a half-dozen meanings in Latin. The meaning depends upon the situation, and upon which of two Words is used. For the Word 'cubiculum' refers to a cell, in the sense of a bedroom; or of the raised seat in which the Roman Emperor sat at theatrical performances. In contrast, the Word 'cella' refers to a cell in the sense of the working spaces within a beehive; of a storeroom such as for corn, oil, and wine; of a shrine to house the temple god's image; or of lowly living quarters, such as in a garret apartment.
