Where was nursing originated?

Perhaps the biggest contribution to the history of nursing in the earlier years came from a woman named Florence Nightingale. During the Crimean War of the 1800s, this lady worked tirelessly to help improve the conditions the injured had to endure. She, in fact, is credited with paving the road for modern nursing. Her book, "Notes on Nursing," is legendary in the field. It would be almost 50 years, however, before this profession would undergo heavily regulated and formalized procedures. The history of nursing took a more formalized twist in the very early 1900s. It was in 1901, in fact, that New Zealand began to regulate the profession. The United State's North Carolina followed suit in 1903 with the passage of nursing license legislation. It wasn't long before most other countries around the world began to catch on to the idea to have formalized training and licensing for professionals in this medical field.
