How do eastern cougars defendprotect themselves against predators?

The Eastern Cougar is a very large wild cat present in wooded and mountainous areas of the Eastern United States. It has very few natural predators. When it is threatened, it can defend itself by scratching or biting. However, it is more likely to run and/or climb a tree to avoid the threat.
